Clark Color Labs Review
Since I am a budding amateur digital photographer (hahaha), I have had occasion to use most of the major photo printing sites at one time or another. I thought I might post my reviews of online photo printing services starting with my Clark Color Labs review. Clark Color was the first site I tried out for photo prints. I was familiar with Clark Color Labs and had seen their advertisements many times before I ever got in to digital photography. They have been in the offline film processing business for fifty plus years. I remember getting coupons for their mail order film developing services sent to me in the mail all the time. When I saw that they had moved into the online world and were offering good prices on digital picture prints, I decided to give them a try.
Their website is not the most dazzling site ever and they are nowhere near the cutting edge of web design, but I found it simple enough to get around. They offer new members 40 free 4×6 photo prints with your first order which is a pretty good deal if you just want to try them out or get a sense of their print quality and customer service before you place a larger order. Registration was straightforward. I was signed up and using their site in just a few minutes.
I am not the most technically savvy person, but I found that uploading my photos from my computer to my account on their website was fairly easy to set up and get rolling. It took a little bit longer than I thought it would on my cable connection, but that could reflect a problem on my end with my internet service provider. Upload speed was not a major concern anyway as you can upload all of your pictures at once so you can get it started and go do other things while the upload proceeds unattended. All in all I would say that regardless of your computer skill level, you should have no trouble getting your pictures from your PC to your account.
Once my digital photos were uploaded, it was very easy to go through and pick out the photos I wanted to print. One feature I really liked was that when you go to order prints, their software gives you guidance on size and quality so you can ensure the best quality printing of your pictures. They also make it easy to select options like glossy finish and borders.
The actual ordering and checkout process was quick and painless. I did not purchase any photo cds or make any photo gifts at Clark Color, but the cd price was very reasonable and they did have a lot of items you could make like mugs, calendars, books and other stuff. My inital order and the two subsequent orders I placed all came in seven days or less. Obviously, this is not as fast as taking your pictures over to your local pharmacy or Walmart, but the savings are significant so if you don’t mind waiting it is well worth it. I think I paid just about half of what I would have paid if I took them somewhere local.
In terms of quality, I was very pleased with the way my pictures came out. They use high quality paper and glossy is the default so I would trust them with photos I wanted to preserve. Barring coupons or special offers, Clark Color Labs usually has the lowest prices so while I have used and do use other sites as well, if I had a large order or more digital photo prints than usual, I would not hesitate to use them again. Their shipping charges are also among the lowest I have seen. Their quality and the value they offer makes them a must try. They also stand by their product with a satisfaction guarantee, but thankfully I have not had to take them up on it.
Below is a screenshot of their latest pricing schedule. All prices are subject to change of course, but if you are looking to save some money on photo prints, Clark Color is clearly a good choice.
